Shouldn't Matter

Differences shouldn't matter,
After all that's what we are,
Just one big fat package
wrapped up in happiness and scars,
How many times have you felt sorry
for what you never got?
Or how many times have you stolen a heart
and actually gotten caught?
I know I've thought and dwelled a lot
on what I don't have or understand,
Maybe I need to listen,
See what I can really do,
Wonder if I'm helping,
Or paying enough attention to "you",
After all is over and we go our separate ways,
I'd like to at least be happy,
Make our friendship run both directions,
Because life isn't just a phase...
