Katsuko began staying with the princess Kakyuu and the StarLights after Yaten found out she was living alone in a nearby apartment. At school, she quickly became popular with boys and girls alike because of her quiet nature although most of the males didn't stick around too long. Yaten made sure of that. Lunch became her favorite time of day, amazed by the different types of food and Makoto's skill. When she wasn't with her Silver Hair, Usagi and the Scouts enjoyed watching Katsuko's reaction as they gave her dish after dish to sample. The discovery of chocolate nearly undid her. During school hours when she wasn't in class, Katsuko could be found with Usagi and her friends, with Taiki watching Seiya play football, quietly admonishing Yaten because of his cutting remarks to a fan or with Ami and Taiki in an empty classroom having an intelligent conversation. Majority of the time after school was spent with either Haruka and Michiru or with Yaten. Minako would spot the both of them together, their hands clasped tightly as they talked and couldn't help the empty feeling in her heart.
DING DONG!
Katsuko heard the doorbell from where she sat at her desk working and got up. "My lady, please. Don't get up," she called out as the princess rose from the couch in the living room.
"Are you certain, Katsuko? Seiya can get that."
"Has my lady forgotten? The StarLights are doing a photo shoot this afternoon."
"Oh yes, you're right. I had forgotten."
DING DONG! Katsuko quickly went to the door and opened it.
"Princess Venus? Please...come in...."
Minako awkwardly stepped inside and forced a nervous smile as Katsuko ushered her into the living room. The princess Kakyuu had already retired, seeing how her StarLights wouldn't be in until late. Minako perched on the couch, ready to flee, but knew she needed answers. Her heart needed answers.
"Are you alright, princess? Is anyone in trouble?"
"No, no, it's nothing like that. No one is hurt or anything. I...I just had to speak to you."
Katsuko waited patiently. "Yes, princess?"
"I just have to know....you and Yaten...." Minako's eyes flicked away. "Are you....together?"
The monarch senshi smiled. "Understand that I love Yaten very much. Although I cannot marry, I suppose that for all intents and purposes...yes...we are together. That is all I can have."
Minako's heart broke, but in the back of her mind she knew the truth. It simply took actual words to make it real. Her curiousity soon overtook her sad feelings.
"You can't marry?"
"No. As a member of the Sailor Elite now, it is against the Leaders' rules. However, should I lose my place as a Guardian, then I would go back home and marry if I so wished."
"Oh...." Minako was quiet.
"I know you love him."
Blue eyes met black in fright, but Katsuko just chuckled gently. "It is ok, princess. Yaten chooses for himself whom he wants and yes, at the moment, that happens to be me, but...should I fall from his favor, then, the Mother Goddess willing, may he find happiness with you."
Minako wanted to cry at such selflessness, but just smiled her gratitude. "Arigato." She rose to leave, but soon turned back.
"Now that the StarLights are back, what happens now? We never really got to ask the last time we were together."
"I do not know, princess. My Leader has not contacted me, but until she does, I have a new life, a new life with the love of my heart and more friends than I could hope for. I am blessed by Mother Goddess for what She has given me in you all. Whatever happens, princess, She will look after all of us. She will protect us. Be safe in your journey home. May Mother Goddess keep you."
