"Walk with your head up, girl," the boy said to her.
"Don't you know you come from kings and queens for sure?"
Her head shot up, defiant hand on her hip.
"Who are you to tell me what to do and give me your lip?"
"I'm sorry, my sister, I don't mean to be rude,
but how far will you get with that attitude?
I am simply a boy, nothing more, nothing less,
but can I tell some things before I digress?"
She looked at him hard, dark eyes searching his.
She sat down beside him. "Please...tell me what it is."
"I saw you looking down as you walked my way
and I thought how could you on this fine day?
The sky, it's so blue, its brillance abound
but how would you know if you're looking down?
Lift your eyes up and take a good look.
Watch the wind through the trees. See how they shook?
See how the children run, skip, and play.
Maybe with time you'll have some one day.
The kings of our past never looked down.
They knew by looking up there was much to be found."
The girl listened and listened well.
She slowly realized there was much he could tell.
They talked for hours and time slipped away.
She touched his hand and smiled at him. "I'm glad I came your way."
A few days later as he was walking that path
A voice spoke to him. "Why are you looking at trash?"
"Walk with your head up, boy. I'll tell you the same thing.
You're not just a person. You are a king."
