Sailor Moon Elite
Chapter 8: New Start
by Janelle Coulter (Age: 27)
copyright 01-10-2003

Age Rating: 16 to 127

The Three Lights were in the middle of breakfast when Katsuko asked for a favor.

"Seiya kou, please ask if her lady and the Scouts would gather here for a meeting this afternoon. I need you three here as well."

Seiya stopped in the middle of shoveling cereal in his mouth and stared. "Sounds serious, Katsuko-chan."

"I fear it is, my friend." She looked over at Yaten and he immediately took hold of her hand. "I would rather hold off on details for the sake of not repeating myself, but I will say this." Her eyes roamed over all three of them. "Something is coming. We need to be ready for it."

Usagi and the Inners hurried to the Lights' residence as soon as the last school bell rang. They picked up Rei at her school and filled her in as best they could.
Seiya didn't tell them much during class and neither could Taiki or Yaten, but if Katsuko was calling a meeting, that meant something was wrong. They reached the front door to find Haruka and Michiru already there, waiting to be let in.

"Do you have any idea what this is about, little kitten?," asked Haruka. "Katsuko-chan didn't say much."

"Neither did Seiya kou. I can't imagine what's going on," answered Usagi breathlessly.

"I don't know about the rest of you, but I don't like this," said Rei.

"Yeah, something is definitely up," interjected Makoto, bag slung over her shoulder.

"Do you think I should have called Mamo-chan?," Usagi asked Ami.

"Well, let's see what Katsuko-chan has to tell us, then you can decide," her friend told her.

The door finally opened and Taiki led them to the living room. Katusko was waiting with Seiya and Yaten.

"Milady." Katsuko bowed.

Usagi rushed to her, clasping the warrior's hands in hers. "Katsuko-chan, please. Enough with the formalities, just tell me...tell us what is wrong. Are you hurt?"

Katsuko smiled gently. "No,milady, I am fine, but I am afraid what I have to say is not as trivial as me and my pains. Please...sit down." She waited until everyone was comfortable, then finally sat herself.

"My Leader has contacted me. She spoke with me last night."

"Well, Katsuko-chan, that's great," said Minako. "We know you've been worried about that."

"Yes, I was...but what she told me..goes beyond worry, princess Venus. She is deeply concerned. The Leaders are deeply concerned."

Michiru gasped. "All four?"

"Yes. My Leader has asked that I train you, train all of you."

"That doesn't sound so bad," said Makoto, brightening at the prospect of learning new skills. "Your Leaders are concerned we won't improve?"

"It is not that which concerns them, princess Jupiter, it is...." Katsuko bit her lip."It is what's coming that concerns them all."

"Coming?," asked Ami.

"Yes. My Leader has told me something dark, something evil, is coming. She couldn't say when exactly, but whatever it is, we must stop it. In order of us to do so, we must train."

There was quiet as everyone took in the news. The StarLights quickly made up their minds. What Katsuko said goes, no questions asked. Haruka and Michiru consented readily as well. Usagi and her Scouts took longer, not sure of what to do. Training was one thing, taking on another enemy was another. After Galaxia and the horrors they faced with her, what else was out there? Usagi suddenly slapped the couch arm, resolve on her face. "We have a duty, Scouts," she said unwaveringly. "We must protect these people, this Earth, from whatever evil arises. This is our home. We have to save it. We've done it before, we'll do it again and we will continue to do it."

With that said, the Inners looked at each other and nodded. Rei couldn't help feeling a bit useless. Usually she was the one who alerted the others, but this time there was nothing, no vibes, no sensations of any kind.

"Princess Mars?"

Rei looked up to see Katsuko kneeling before her. "I come on my knees, one princess to another, to ask a favor," began the mocha skinned girl. "The people of Mars and their intuition are legendary. Without a timeframe of any sort, we are at a disadvantage so I ask you to use your ability to warn us of this approaching danger."

Rei smiled and nodded. "Of course."

Katsuko smiled back and bowed her head in thanks. Then she stood and walked over to the window. Her back to the sun, she stretched out her arms and closed her eyes, head tilted to the heavens.

"Goddesses of the elements, Water, Earth, Fire, Wind! I beseech thee, grant me power! Give your servant strength! Sailor Elite....transform!"

There was a great light that seemed to emanate from her body and it felt as through the sun increased its brilliance. Usagi shielded her eyes from the brightness and only looked up again when the light and warmth receded. What she saw made her mouth drop.
Sailor Monarch stood before them dressed in a long slit-sleeved burnt orange blouse, black pants that flared at the bottom and black heels. Her midnight hair shone in her ponytail tied up in orange ribbon, tossed over one shoulder. Huge monarch wings protruded from behind her, beautiful and radiant orange and black. Then Usagi noticed the symbol. On Monarch's right wing was a mark, a sun with spiked rays and a pointed star in the middle. She's beautiful, thought Usagi as she stared.

Everyone was still as Monarch shifted her winged spear from one hand to the other. There was a look of determination in her onyx eyes, focusing on the task at hand.

"The training begins now."
