Men In Black II: Sailor Moon Ripoff?

  Sailor Moon Column

I just finished watching MIB 2 for the second time and I noticed an interesting similarity to Sailor Moon. I don't think it was deliberate - it is more likely that it is merely a coincidence - but it is there.

(Warning: If you haven't watched MIB 2 and you don't want to know what happens, stop reading this. I will reveal key plot points.)

First, I'll point out the obvious: both MIB 2 and SM are about teams of heroes who protect the world from evil beings from other planets. This is not so much of a coincidence in itself and, if this were the only similarity, I would not have noticed it. However, there are others.

In MIB 2, everyone is searching for something called the Light of Zartha. This Light is revealed at the end to be a beautiful young woman whose mother is from another planet. She didn't know that she was not human before this. She also learns that the fate of the Earth and her own homeworld is in her hands. Sailor Moon is often referred to as the Light of Hope. Her mother is Queen Serenity who is not native to Earth. Sailor Moon does not learn who she is when she is a child. Then she has the responsibility of the entire Solar system in her hands.

These similarities are too many to be ignored. Is it possible that the makers of MIB 2 are Moonatics?

Thia is the funniest thing I've ever read! But, hey anything is possible. The movie took 5 years to make, maybe somewhere along the line they really messed up and said "hey, this isn't working out, we need a plot from a show that everybody likes". And it just happened to be sailor moon. ^-^

ya know... the world today is falling apart and people are copying off of other people more and more.. I think they did copy somewhat from the Sailor Moon series... It is actually very possible... In fact I think they did!!!
