Authors note:
When I was 13, my father had passed a way. He had spent the last 5 years of his life in treatment center for TB. He had been allowed to come home about 6 months before he died. I never knew how he felt about me. On my son Paul's 12th birthday and my son Christophers 13th birthday, I had clock plaques made for each of them.
That was 10 years ago. A friend at
work recently mentioned he wished his father would have told him how he felt about him before he died.
I share these with you in hopes that you may leave a letter or two for your children.

I named you after the patron saint of the wander, the pawn broker. In the eyes of some he is just a legend. He carried Christ and the sins of the world across a small river. You carry the nick name pumpkin, bestowed on you by the nurse who helped deliver you, you also carry the responsibility of doing the good I have not completed. You are strong willed and self directed, you will succeed. You have the very special gift of internal motivation use it wisely. You are my crutch. I turn to you when I need strength, when I need an honest answer, as to what I am
how I look, what I have done, you hold back nothing, you are my mirror, you are my reflection. Christopher be the man God intended, you will be a servant to the world. I love you, dad.

You are the sunshine of my life. From the moment you were born, you have given me the rays of hope, faith and love. When I am sad you find a way to make me smile. You repeat the words, I tell you, "remember the Jesus way"; you direct me with my own words. You remind me of my obligations, you hold me accountable, to the good I preach you to do. You push me to the limits. Yours is the voice I carry with me, your faith is the drive that keeps me going. I love you Paul, dad.
