Moonlight Maiden
by Dian Bagent (Age: 21)
copyright 01-20-2003
Contest Winner

Age Rating: 7 to 127

The moon rises high in the night,
casting a silver glow to all around,
yet one maiden stands out in sight,
indecision no longer holds her bound.

Her dark brown hair blows in the breeze,
her crystal blue eyes sparkle with tears,
the shadow around her bitterly agrees
as the decision increases her fears.

What will happen when I'm gone?
Will people forget me?
Will my legacy live on?
Will they only remember me briefly?

It doesn't matter anymore,
the decision has been made,
all that's left is for her to ignore
reason and journey on her crusade.

She lifts her arms above her head,
reaching for the moon,
she no longer feels the dread,
as she sings a haunting tune.

Her white dress flows around her
as she dances in the meadow,
and she glows ever brighter
with the colors of the rainbow.

The birds end their singing,
the sound stops its echoes,
the wind stops its blowing,
the sound of rivers slow.

Her song grows ever louder,
her dancing grows more graceful,
her form slightly starts to blur
as she shines like a lit candle.

Slowly she starts to fade
as the trees look on with grief.
But the stars will not be delayed
as they welcome her with relief.

The Moonlight Maiden leaves this land,
and drifts far away,
to be once more hand and hand
with the stars to forever stay.

And so her song flows ever on
the decision has been made,
to sing her song forever on,
so that it will never fade.
