Compassion
by Herb Burd
copyright 07-23-2001

Age Rating: 18 to 127

Lost a friend the other day.
Another victim's life taken away.
There's a silent enemy
we've come to know well.
The quilt grows longer, how much longer,
who can tell?
I see frustrated lovers afraid to kiss.
I hear ignorance throwing around blame for this.

If I sound angry, that's because I am.
I love the woman, I love the man.
What is the human soul without compassion?
God please, never let me lose my compassion.

From fighting a war overseas,
Now we're fighting this horrible disease.
From yellow ribbons to red.
Economic shut down, children of the world
crying to be fed.
Shaken homes, insurance policies that have rusted.
The false evangelist, they have finally been busted.

If I sound angry, that's because I am.
I love the woman, I love the man.
What is the human soul without compassion?
God please, never let me lose my compassion.
Never let me lose my compassion.
Never let me lose my compassion.

It's so hard to do, not lose compassion I mean, especially in the world of generalities in which we live. Everyone is fitted into one peg hole or another. Then others fight the others and you're nearly forced to generalize yourself. What happens when there's so much "inbreeding" that we're all mutts, no more pedigrees and no more geneology, no more heritage and no more silver spoons born in baby's mouths. WHat happens when we are all one big happy family? What happens when prejudice is gone and fizzled away? What happens when we look at someone with aids with a view to a cure, instead of a view to a curse? What happens when we actually feel sorry for the lame, instead of incessently pointing fingers and placing blame??? EH???
