Rim Shot
Through the doubt and through the sorrow,
Bands are sounding our death knell,
Lambs come plastick’d from the slaughter
Rim shots on a wishing well.
Further off the darker forces,
Bend each victim to their will,
While we take our delectation,
Rim shots on the wishing well.
When the night has slowly gathered,
Crushing us within its folds
Like true brothers we dissemble,
Yearning for the times of old.
With one final rush of goodness,
Pressing hard the gloom to quell,
One more prayer and then it’s over.
Rim shot! On the wishing well.

Thanks all! I really appreciate your comments. This was a 'strange vision' of mine half-awake, half asleep, one night, as the line came to me. I think it is somehow influenced by the Hymn which starts 'Through the night of doubt and sorrow, onward goes the pilgrim band' even though you can spot the influence, I hope it's not plagiarism!
