We know them as our refuge from reality,
from a world where love eludes us all our lives.
Inside them we seek solace from the cruelty,
and pretend we’re free from misery and strife.
Magic realm that’s never cloudy blessed by sunny skies;
full of smiles and friendly laughter, with no tears.
We’re revered for good intentions, never criticized.
We don’t waken every morning plagued by fears.
Dreams are for the Lonely, close to suicide,
thinking death would be so peaceful, no more pain.
Because in dreams we need not sacrifice our goals and pride;
needn’t watch while all our hopes go down the drain.
Dreams are for the Lonely, who have nothing else,
when abandoned by our friends and families.
We can dance like no one’s watching, we can be ourselves;
feel compassion flowing freely as the breeze.
So we seek to slip inside them - be forever lost,
where we’ll never have to face the bitter truth.
Escape the lies and circumstances - dreadful costs.
Turn back the years and tides, restore our youth.
Dreams are for the Lonely, who have given up,
thinking nothing could be worse than one more day.
Because in dreams we can find purpose and unselfish love,
and it truly matters what we think and say.
Dreams are for the Lonely, who have nowhere else,
when we’ve traveled all our roads till the Dead Ends.
We can sing like no one’s listening, we can be ourselves;
even though it’s not real life – we can pretend.

It is so sad that most of the people you describe so well do not have dreams, they are incapable of dreaming. That exact ‘prescription’ to dream, eludes them. To be able to dream is a privilege we take for granted. Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful poem.
