~Annabelle~
I would not accept your roses
And I shunned your kisses,
As that jubilant smile on your
Face faded to a frown.
You aren't even aware
That you have taken my heart
In your untrustworthy hands
And ripped out the rhythm
Leaving me with an irregular
Heart beat that threatens to stop
At any given moment.
You called for her in your sleep.
You called Annabelle , my sweet
Annabelle. Those words cut into
My flesh like a rusty knife,
Leaving me infected with jealousy.
Tainted now is the sweet
Love we once shared.
I feel so angry and tormented
By those words that I can
Barely function.
How could you be with me
And dream of her?
I felt so crushed and inconsolable
I finally confessed all to
Your sister when she called.
Instead of her sympathy and understanding,
I got laughter, loud laughter!
Then just before I hung up the phone
In her callous ear, she said
Six words that returned my life to me....
"Annabelle was my brother's pet calf"!
