Sailor Moon Elite 2
Chapter 4: Truth
by Janelle Coulter (Age: 27)
copyright 01-29-2003

Age Rating: 16 to 127

Usagi noticed the change in Katsuko before the rest of the Scouts, but didn't know how to approach the girl about it. Yaten was already concerned about her, that was obvious, but he wouldn't talk to Usagi about it. When she spoke to him expressing her worry, he brushed her off saying to just leave Katsuko alone and not to pester her.

"Don't you bother her," he had spat one afternoon.

Usagi had blown him a raspberry in frustration, but in spite of his harsh tone, her worry didn't evaporate. Katsuko still laughed and smiled, but not as much as before and her eyes had a pained look now. Finally Usagi couldn't bear it any longer and got to the Elite warrior before the Lights could whisk her away.

"Katsuko-chan, what is wrong?," she asked, pulling her into an empty classroom to talk.

"Nothing, milady," came the quiet reply.

"Kudasai, Katsuko-chan. I beg of you. Tell me what is wrong."

Looking into Usagi's big blue eyes, Katsuko wanted to tell, but fear of hurting the princess sealed her mouth. "Milady, I can not. I...I want to, but I do not want to hurt you or your Guardians."

"How could you after all you have done for us?," asked Usagi, completely bewildered. "You have made us stronger, you've taught us so much. I wouldn't have been to pick up a sword and use it well if it wasn't for you." The smile she had while talking slowly faded as Katsuko shook her head.

"Oh, milady, you are so kind. I can only ask for your forgiveness."

"Nani, Katsuko-chan? Warkarimasen."

"I mean that I hope that I can protect you from this danger better than when Galaxia descended upon this planet." Seeing the confusion on Usagi's face, Katsuko decided that she could no longer keep the secret. "I was never able to finish everything I had to say at the first meeting. I should have looked past my pain in order to tell you." Breathing deeply, she began. "Besides being a Guardian Elite, we are also watchers of planets and solar systems. Before Mane's death, she watched over Kinmoku and its system. I watched over Earth's system, but you were never to see me or know of me. The Leaders Elite saw no reason for that. We tried so hard to keep Galaxia from reaching more planets and after the carnage on Kinmoku, we thought we could. We had to." Katsuko became quiet, her head spinning wildly with remembered images and sounds from battle. She would have collapsed into a nearby chair had Usagi not been at her side to assist. "We failed, milady. We couldn't defeat her. We couldn't keep her from coming here, reaching you. I had no power to help you, I was not allowed on Earth when she came and put you through so much. I am so sorry, milady."

Usagi was quiet, thinking. Poor Katsuko-chan. She has such high standards of herself and such a big heart. She tries so hard to protect others, especially us. She reached down and took Katsuko's hands in hers gently. "There is nothing to forgive." She smiled. "You are a warrior. You simply followed orders and you did what you could. I can not blame you for that. I can not ask for more than that either. None of us can. Please don't be sad anymore."

Katsuko looked at her in surprise, then smiled gratefully. "Domo arigato, milady. You are truly regal."

Usagi blushed, then laughed out loud. "Me? Regal? Boy, wait till Rei-chan hears that!"
