Hungry

by Mary -BrytEyz- Ball (Age: 43)
copyright 07-25-2001

Age Rating: 13 +

Drinking water hardly quenches my thirst,
For what I'm craving isn't in my cup.
Before I ate, I said my prayer first,
Spying food that surely wasn't enough.

Drinking water hardly quenches my thirst;
This feeling is more rightly called hunger.
Have you ever ate so much you could burst?
Oh yes, Thanksgiving when I was younger!

Drinking water hardly quenches my thirst,
Such brutal lust was no match for that meal.
Vodka and orange juice, I'm starving but nursed;
Now I believe the boogie man is real.

Drinking water hardly quenches my thirst;
Of all pains, Hunger's got to be the worst!

Heh, interesting how many "hungers" there can be and how you use the most common of them all to hint to all the other kinds. With the mention of alcohol you might want to boost the age-rating a little...I could just be a little paranoid though. I seriously doubt there'd be and one-year old on PnP since when they're that young they're still in diapers but all the same...:) This has good flow and structure, so congrats on another poem well-done! Hmm, your next poem on the list is one of my favorite poems of all time. :D

Well, it's more than just a hunger for food I sense here...there is passion bubbling under the surface. Very sensuous in a subtle way. Sneaky of you and well done.

I agree Robert. Thirst is more of a life and death situation, but you either quench it or die before it becomes such an inner pain like hunger can be. Hunger bores deeper within as it grows, and it's a pain like none other I've every experienced. Granted, child birth was the worst, but I don't think it's fair to count that one... *grin* And clean cold water?... mmm.. now there's an idea. I think I'll get me a glass simply because I can! *smile*
