Soul Tower

  Soul Tower

Across the barren landscape, I notice crimson orbs
rapidly cajoling, persistant blinking arguments
Steel rods towering against the mediocrity of an empty sky

Cumbersome, unshapely, pragmatic, complicated
suffering from daytime blindness, much more suited to the dark
Transmits a killer instinct, diamantine will to win

Can that metallic heart feel anything
electric currents, ac-dc floodlights giving rise to what it's thinking
Hard to figure out what it wants from me

Each night I creep a little closer, curiosity goads me on
I finally reach the fenced-in portal, protected by the glacis plate
Trespassers best beware; security risk, high voltage danger

Am I compos mentis or will my grasp of sanity be compromised
I listen for the tumbler's click on the combination lock
that leads to non-conformist revelations

Rung by criss-crossed rung I scale the iron girders
fastly fading, solid ground is just a memory away
I'm compelled to question anything and everything I thought I ever knew

Temporary lapses, insinuating toxins race throughout my central nervous system
A labyrinth of red flag tentacles erupting, tingling, itching
Lethal dose of last ditch efforts poisoning my skin

It's strange how I am slowly freed as I ascend the final steps
butterfly effect, influences emerging from my own chaotic theories
My soul the steady-beckoning tower, infused with beauty, inspiration's light

Very powerful writing.

Ginger, this poem is about me and the fear of discovering who and what I am, as opposed to who and what I thought I was.

Hi Nancy. This was a very interesting poem, different from what I have read on this site so far. Thanks for sharing.
