Perpetual Darkness with a Nightlight
by Michiru Kaioh
copyright 02-12-2003

Age Rating: 10 to 127

Here I sit, withering away,
Stuck in depression, happy in sadness.
Finding comfort in the lonely nights
Singing, rocking, consoling my madness.

Eternal darkness forever surrounding
Holding, cradling, keeping me close.
Then you appear with your happy smile,
And suddenly I am no longer morose.

Your grins and laughter intrude on my peace
Destroy my cloud cover, the darkest depths.
Your words and songs open my heart,
And from my mind banish thoughts of death.

Then you must leave, you cannot stay.
And I am left all alone with my plight.
Yet you have left me one thing of yours
I have in my darkness a little nightlight.

This is a powerful piece. I really liked the line happy in my sadness. What a paradox. Very nice write.
