She slipped her little hand in mine
and for a while it was just like
old times

We walked through at least twenty years
softly she kissed my cheek
and gently fell asleep

The world seemed right again
a child seeking a place
with an old friend

I cover her with a quilt
it will keep her warm
hide her guilt

The child yet to be
a brave new world
to see

The evening talks of long ago
snow angels in the new
fallen snow

All of these things
filled her world with
wonderful dreams

So much planned
some will look
few understand

I am just glad
she came to me
to hold her hand
