Innocence Cry (rewritten)

Another walked on the wild side,
and he was left to wage the price.
The eye witness stood up and lied,
and the jury sentenced him twice.

He sat in his cubicle cell
and awaited his final death.
A Zombie residing in hell,
while they wait to take his last breath.

"All is forgiven," the priest said,
offering the savory meal.
The demonic wolf has been fed,
offering his blood to be shed.

They lead him in the dead man's walk,
while the other prisoners chant.
The true guilty will never talk,
and it is justice they all rant.

Blindfolded and wearing death's crown,
with his weak legs strapped to the chair.
They pull the deadly lever down,
as he screamed, "I was not there!"

Death beckoned him to it's door
and he welcomed it with a sigh.
He would not plead, nor beg anymore,
for them to hear, Innocence Cry.

Very sad when an innocent man is condemned to death or any sentence. I know a young man sentenced to life who served 12 years before they proved him innocent and released him...How can those lost years be replaced? They cannot..but death is forever...Another reason to take a hard look at the death penalty and our legal system. Great write!
