From the pitter patter of little feet to the clapping of his hands,
From the daily tumult of questions for things he doesn't understand.
When the nights are dark and long, when I wonder what's Your plan,
Lord, please keep me in this moment.
When he learns to dance to music or speaks his very first sweet prayer,
Please don't let me rush through life, let me celebrate with him there.
Always remind my heart that these few seconds are so rare.
Lord, please keep me in this moment.
Teach me how to savor times which drift away so fast.
For every second, every moment, adds to memories which will last.
When years speed by, I can smile at the joys left in my past.
Lord, please keep me in this moment.
Even when he trips and falls, or rebels against the truth,
show me how to lead him to the love he'll find in you.
You will take his sins and clean his soul to make it new.
Lord, please keep me in this moment.
These years are crucial times to build a character that's strong,
make me ever faithful to help teach him right from wrong;
to lead him in Your footsteps and to learn to sing Your songs.
Lord, please keep me in this moment.
One day he will be all grown up and what will people see?
Results of things he learned of You while living under me.
Please help me show him of your grace and love so faithfully.
Lord, please keep me in this moment.
