Quitting smoking is insane
Cravings are a constant pain

Patches burn the gum tastes bad
It's enough to drive you mad

Your throat is hoarse and you're fatigued
all your friends think it's a breeze

On top of that as time goes by
You feel like crap and want to cry

Two days later you've had enough!
And so you go back to the stuff

You still feel sick--three days this lasts!
You're mad as hell you've failed your task

And so you sit smoking and pissed
I'm smoking as I'm writing this!

I learned to smoke when I was a student nurse, a long time ago. I was 17, it seemed sophisticated and everyone else was doing it. Took me 17 years to realize I felt ill all the time, so I quit. It filled me with undirected rage....I wanted a rusty old railway spike to bite down on with my back teeth so hard they would break the spike. Of course, I didn't get the spike, and after 6 weeks of waiting for the torment to end, I was cured, and I have never regretted it, I wrote about it in life begins at 33. Good write!
