On the Late, Late Show,
and on the video,
I’ve seen a special love,
a kind I’ll never know.
A woman loves some guy,
no matter what he’s got,
just the way he is;
not a buck, not a pot.
And she waits pensively,
for his late return,
because she loves him – see?
How her heart does yearn.
I want a love like that;
this kinda living ain’t right.
I want a love like that,
to hold the rest of my life.
His love for her true blue,
her letters ‘gainst his chest,
he wages World War Two,
conquers the Wild, Wild West.
She needs him desperately -
he’s her handsome prince;
unconditionally,
with no need to convince.
Far away he roams;
he fights so gallantly;
just praying to be home,
where she pines patiently.
All alone I’ve sat,
I’ve downed a thousand beers.
Craving a love like that,
I’ve shed a trillion tears.
I want a love like that;
this kinda living ain’t right.
I want a love like that,
to hold the rest of my life .
