Two Paths
by Pepper Basham
copyright 03-29-2003

Age Rating: 18 to 127

If I could choose from paths in life,
One way of ease and one of strife,
Which would I take out of the two?
Which one would make me more like You?

If I could choose the easy way
With life so fine, I need not pray,
And every dream fulfilled with ease,
No cause to fall upon my knees?

If trials ceased to block my way
And cares were simply blown away,
Would I forget Who brought me through?
Would I forget to say ‘thank you’?

The other path was not so plain,
With roads that led through wounds and pain.
But in the midst of darkness, sore,
Would I not lean upon you more?

When persecution showers me,
Or tears fall so I cannot see,
Would each step bring me to the place
Where I reflect Your precious grace?

When the school of life knocks at my door
I realize what the pain is for,
Without sorrow, joy could not be.
Through darkness, I learn how to see.

If I could choose my path in life,
Knowing Yours was filled with strife,
Which would I take out of the two?
Which one would make me more like you?
