Jack and His Blue Shoe
by Pepper Basham
copyright 06-28-2003

Age Rating: 4 to 9

Jack was a big scary dinosaur
with large, purple eyes and a loud, angry roar.
He had green scales all up his back,
but something was terribly wrong with poor Jack.

His eyes were all droopy, his green face so pale
as a matter of fact, Jack did not look well.
You see, Jack was feeling so sad, it is true,
because he had lost his favorite blue shoe.

He went to the tiger, who lived far away.
The trip was so long it took him all day.
The tiger, named Todd, was not scared at all,
when he heard old Jack’s loud roaring call.

“What is the matter?” Todd asked, with a frown.
“You walk with your head almost touching the ground.”
“Oh Todd,” Jack said, sniffling. “I’m so sad, you see,
‘cause I should have four shoes and I only have three.”

Todd went to the den and pulled out his shoes,
and there were red ones, and green ones, and blues,
but Todd’s shoes were too small for Jack’s great big feet,
so Jack thanked his dear friend and then walked down the street.

Then Jack saw Beth, the bird, flying high in the sky.
“Oh Beth,” Jack called out, and Beth flew down with a sigh.
“Could you help me, my friend,” Jack frowned, a big frown.
“I’ve lost my blue shoe and it cannot be found.

Beth nodded and flew way up high to her nest,
for you see nests up high are simply the best.
And she brought all her shoes by the pair to the ground,
but Beth’s feet were too thin so Jack’s shoe was not found.

Jack looked all day long. He searched until
His entire body was feeling quite ill.
You see, his foot with no shoe on it yet,
felt terribly cold and hurting and wet.

So Jack went on home to give up his quest.
He walked to his bed to take a long rest.
And there in a pile of white and of blue,
sat his giant dog, Clover, and his favorite blue shoe.

I just love your poem-stories!
They alwys have a great moral or a funny ending, and make me feel better.
They would make little kids laugh out loud!
