The Edge, The Distance & The Limit...
by Erick Phillips
copyright 08-03-2001

Age Rating: 18 to 127

In seeing the sky,
know that it is limited
like that of rain.
Though beautiful while falling,
it will crash
into the ground with impending force,
only to give way to something creative.
A puddle...
and your reflection will tell stories
if you know how to turn
the pages.

In that star you wish on at night
who’s distance between
seems endless;
it’s reachable, if you stretch yourself
beyond the body’s point
of breaking,
and lick your ability to grow
as if it was
your favorite flavor.

Eternity is for dreamers, and mathematicians
not satisfied with finishing.
A concept of time,
meant to negate its purpose.
On a graph
the line goes on forever,
but the page its on
has an edge.

Recognize the edge,
the distance,
and the limit.
As tomorrows are numbered
and potentially done with,
make note of your current status,
plot your present position
on the graph,
and negotiate the distance
between you and your wish.
Still, forget not
to look in the puddle
every now and again
so to remember who you are...

Interesting poem with interesting images, although I must admit I had to re-read the first stanza several times to actually "see" the image you were creating. Well done.
