Debussy rails as strumpets cruise mind’s streets;
In fantasy they all have eyes for me.
I flip and start while ceiling rhythms beat;
The banshees on the second floor are free.
Awake, the howl of debt now fills my night;
The IRS and States shall strip me raw,
As Mastercard and VISA suck me dry.
Stark unemployment looms with callous maw.
Ex-wife will wail and gnash her store-bought set;
Foreclosure dance upon my coffin lid.
The gee-gaws on her fingers, wrists and neck
Would never cover ten percent of it.
Sweet solace near, blue hammer snicks with thumb;
Slick squeeze, smooth trigger - blessed peace - 'tis done....

That's so true. The devil's on the loose and he's dancing with the IRS, while he's got the rest of us by the throat. Great write about the horrors of debt and everyday living!
Dont' go pulling any 'smooth triggers', Lyle. Your talent is outstanding. I love the plethera of words and visual imagery you always give (plus photos :) Great read and with dark comedy.
this is excellant poetry, but I certianly hope its not an autobiography.Grandpa always said when your down reach up angels are waiting to lift you.WE can rise above anything with faith and time.
