Both of us out here painting our towns
At opposite ends of the Earth
Neither one cheating or fooling around
Just escaping the lonelies and hurts
We’re toasting each other round after round
Dancing in shared reveries
A fairy tale princess and a rodeo clown –
Drinking and dreaming that dream
Drinking and dreaming that dream!
The one where we kiss and the music goes on for Eternity_____________!
Where I hold you so close as we whirl past the stage
Where we’re dizzy from dancing, but the band plays and plays
More in love than we’d dreamed two could ever be!
Drinking and dreaming that dream!
Some good old boy eyes you, some old gal hits on me,
But we’re not really there don’t they see?
They don’t know we’re lost in our faraway scene,
And we’re drinking and dreaming that dream
Drinking and dreaming that dream!
The one where we kiss and the music goes on for Eternity_____________!
Where I hold you so close as we whirl past the stage
Where we’re dizzy from dancing, but the band plays and plays
More in love than we’d dreamed two could ever be!
Drinking and dreaming that dream!

Point well taken Beverly. Like so many modern lyrics, this one depicts a fantasy realm. Drinking of course solves nothing. The song merely depicts the similar reactions of the two separated wannbe lovers, with the drinking and dreaming as a lyrical hook more than a solution to social dilemma. Thanks for the response to my song.
Thanks also to Sharon, Mary and Robert. This one isn't done yet, but I have a melody rattling around in my old bald head. It is a fast country waltz.
