What's In A Name?

  What's In A Name?

North Wales can boast of the longest place name in the world, or at least in the Northern Hemisphere.

On the Island of Anglesey near the elegant mansion of Plas Newydd stands the village of:

Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch (Llanfair PG for short) which roughly translated means "St. Mary's Church by the white aspen over the whirlpool and St. Tysilio's Church by the red cave." Another translation goes something like this: "St. Mary's Church in the hollow of the white hazel near a rapid whirlpool and the Church of St. Tysilio of the red cave."

However you say it, it's still a mouthfull!

This town also has the longest domain website, get a load of this:

I hope I didn't leave a letter out!

You learn something every day. It would take a week to remember how to spell it! Thanks, Anthony
