Dancing With A Stranger
by Gregory Christiano (Age: 61)
copyright 04-24-2003

Age Rating: 18 to 127

It was there in the
Blue Note Lounge,
We met!
She had a slender, lithe frame
Dark, flowing dress.
Smitten I was.
Her red hair aflame
Green eyes,
Or were they hazel?
I nourished my hopes.
Such beauty, I only dreamt of.
Like a sparkle of precious stones,
Fragrant flowers.
Blossomed from long fantasies
Even in the dim light,
Milky-white her skin.
My fever grew,
Straightening my tie, clearing my throat,
To part the curtain of night,
And in that dim light,
I approached her.
Slowly, with measured step,
Stirred by a sudden rush,
There.
She stood alone, glancing my way,
Her eyes inviting me,
Alluring.
A hairsbreadth more,
And I would meet her.
This is no dreamless lie!
I fell upon my fears - to
Conquer them soundly.
She felt the same!
I sensed it - I knew it.
Barely a word - No word at all.
We embraced to the music
The instruments filled the hall.
Soft music it was, low sax, faint piano.
A few bars here and there, softly.
My fingertips tingled, wrapped tightly in hers.
I felt that thirst, that hunger.
We danced slowly.
Unintroduced.
Silent.
Yet we spoke a million things,
With our eyes, our touch.
Closer.
No words exchanged. They weren't needed.
Dancing slowly, slow, as slow can be.
Intoxicated.
Fitfully we strove,
Slowly holding, gently touched, embracing.
It was magic, I swear.
Enveloped in a quivering web,
An excitement. A crescendo about to erupt.
Like percussion, timbals about to beat,
Cymbals about to clash!
The excitement of two strangers!
A smile crossed our lips.
A caress, and a trembling kiss.
The room had disappeared.
We were alone, together!
Alone in a crowded room.
Where bliss never ends,
Where a life begins.
Where hearts soar.
We were no strangers.
She knew me.
Yes, I knew her well.
She was no stranger at all.

Wow... if one were to read this before my story (GOOD THINGS TAKE TIME - http://www.prose-n-poetry.com/display_work/13713)... they'd think I copied your story in part of mine for sure! But then again, anyone who's danced with a stranger thusly (and no stranger indeed)...they know. They really KNOW what you're writing about. I do! This is full of romantic & sexual tension. :-)

I love this poem, it is very well written and the imagery is fantastic.

Beautiful expression. I fell right onto the dance floor.
