When I was but a babe,
You took my hand, unafraid.
You knew that you would raise me right,
You knew that I would always be in the light.
Then I grew, into a toddler,
Restless and never easy to anger.
You took me, you helped me walk,
You also helped me to begin to talk.
Over the years I began to age,
And school now appeared upon the stage.
You made sure I got there,
You made sure that I was treated fare.
Soon after into Jr. High I stepped,
Between us it seemed a wall was kept.
You tried to break through,
But I use to see that you never do.
I made it hard for you,
Harder then it ever should.
Your love was all I ever needed,
Though you gave so much more.
So here, Mother,
Here is a gift.
A red, red rose I give to you,
It symbolizes so many things.
The red is the color of my love,
The thorns are the pain that, because of me, flows.
The long stem is for your ever lasting love,
A gift that can say it all, for mother, a rose.
