The Celestial Magician
by Gregory Christiano (Age: 61)
copyright 05-05-2003

Age Rating: 18 to 127

Torrent-rainbows dwindled as
Night drew near,
The tints were coldly pale,
Glimmer'ng deeply there.
An airy vision comes shrouded
In the still night,
Dark-robed shade under
Shadowy cloud in flight.

Ardently he comes with
Silver moonbeams wove,
His face with youthful passion
And eyes of sullen mauve.
Beaming in the flood
Of rapture, lay
A dazzling light shown
'Round him in the day!

This lustre could not be match'd
By godly man,
His cheeks were flush with
Ambrosia's nourish'd brand.
Supp'd with the deities above
With holy fingers' grip,
Crystal cups of wine in
Celestial stewardship.

He breath'd his power strong
Upon a musky grove.
Vain and bootless folk
Mock'd him to behove.
Thus shunn'd him with
Haste and cursing breath,
His displeasure unleash'd
Pest'lence and death.

Heart of harshest steel
In rage did descend,
Cold in death's dissention
Could not defend.
Valley of tears broke
Upon these peopl's head,
With glazed eyes the cheerless
Apparition said:

"Spurn me not, mortal men,
Men doom'd in life.
I came to give you peace
Not blighted strife.
I came to give you gifts of
Love and hope,
Instead you cursed me
Wrongly in beastial scope!"

"Suffer now your fate
In shatter'd dreams,
Frown with craven'd dim
Haunt'd schemes.
Parch'd minds - no pleasure
I take from this imparted."
The apparition turn'd from
Them, and departed.

A finely crafted poem with superb imagery and statement. I must read more of your work. It is excellent.
