Clara's Lament
by Beth Wesolowski
copyright 05-05-2003

Age Rating: 18 to 127

No angels watch with gilded wings;
No shadows lurk in waiting;
No evening Owl
Bespeaks the night;
My silence weeping, come back to me.

A tender kiss would surely calm
The blue that breathes within me;
For hands of time
Are creeping gently;
My arms are empty, come back to me.

I close my eyes
To faded dream,
A bonny lad come runnin’ home.
Awake I see
The truth, be still;
Can’t see your eyes, so far away…

I kissed your cheek on solid ground
As duty pulled you from me;
A wave good-bye,
A silent prayer,
A star for wishing, come back to me.

I close my eyes
To fabled dreams;
A smile, two arms to hold me near.
Awake I cry,
The certainty;
You love me still, so far away…

A hush, a breath, a winded sigh,
A distant train goes rumblin’.
There’s only me.
There’s only me.
Whose heart is aching, come back to me.
Whose heart is waiting, come back to me.
