Returning Home
by Esther Spurrill (Age: 29)
copyright 05-06-2003

Age Rating: 10 to 127

Home beckons;
Familiar things
Now seem unfamiliar,
But I remember

When I was young,
When I took all this for granted,
And never noticed it.

Now I return
From wandering abroad.
I feel like a child again,
But at the same time I feel old and disconnected.

But still this is home;
My home.

Home is wonderful. When I was growing up my Dad was a travling salesman, so we had lots of homes, but my grandparents always had the same house so that is where I got this feeling the most. Thanks, Anthony

To me, home is as much memory as it is history. Somehow when we return in reality, it's never quite the same. Often times, the history isn't there anymore and memory is all we have left with only fragments of what was that remain. I feel like writing something on a related topic now. Thanks for the inspiration.

I understand it. You are right, the place where you first born, is always your home.
Good work Esther!

Wonderful, I do understand.. After 15 years in FL,
coming home to WI left me the same feelings.
It seems as if I never left.
