Hope
by Christopher Doss (Age: 21)
copyright 05-22-2003

Age Rating: 7 to 127

"Hope" by definition is a desire
with expectation of fulfillment.
In my mind, "hope" is a dream,
a fancy, simply an illusion.
Something your mind creates
when life has become too hard

Just as with the wind, you feel
its cool promise on your skin.
Hold out your hand, it passes
freely through your fingers.
You cannot catch or hold it,
nor can you see it to follow

When we have hope for something
it is useless unless we take action.
Otherwise it is only idle dreams,
and they are of little use to anyone.
They will lure you into their trap
consuming your life with daydreams.

Yet, it is "hope" that keeps us going,
fighting against fear to keep trying.
A weapon against our reality for a chance
to achieve the wonders of what could be.
Although hope may well be an illusion,
never let it die in your heart and mind.
