Sunday Afternoon
by Walter Jones (Age: 63)
copyright 05-10-2003

Age Rating: 13 to 127

A man stopped by today
really did not have much to say

Just that he was getting old
and my child he'd like to hold

Stated in his life he had some regrets
was happy that he was not dead yet

He smiled and then thanked me
for fighting too set him free

I looked around its plain to see
that he is a important piece of me

He is a neighbor and friend
no matter the color of his skin

There is a great image shown here. It touched me and I am sure that others will feel the same way. Whenever you talk to older people, you tend to learn more and more and begin to watch in awe as your own life takes place. This poem is great. on another note . . I'm jealous. . .you can write in rhyme. I have the hardest time and I think that is why I usually write in Free Verse.

Walt! You amazed my heart... So much human and warm thoughts in a short poem. - Irina.
