Ah, I do remember it was early December
foot balls still in flight
A dark and cold chilly night
Fifty years have come and gone
Parents died still friendship is strong
Christmas trees exchanges of bottles, 7 Crown
Basketball twenty four seven
playgrounds asphalt was our heaven
pool halls we tried that to
not much we didn't do
Father throws you out in the world
you stayed with our family
almost brothers that is what we'd be
On to college that is where I went
into the Navy you were sent
strange meeting you on leave
College girls, sneaking in the dorm
as always true to form
both of us had not changed
Then the draft, Vietnam
Almost lost you then
Crawled inside a bottle
Both of us had changed
but like the wind pieces
still stayed the same
Each had to fight his devils
never alone we stood tall
helped each other through it all
Time has taken it's toll
don't see you much any more
but our friendship grows
Each Christmas day
we spend the same
as we've done for fifty years
My family likes to hear
you tell our exploits
and your fear
Back seat on the floor
saying the Rosary
and so much more
From rolling cars
to closing bars
Basket ball games
Only time moves on
not us
