Brick by Brick
by Penny Coberly
copyright 05-15-2003

Age Rating: 18 to 127

Brick by brick
I'm building a wall
Surrounding my heart
to lighten the fall

It's a long process
The mortar is wet
The wind is still
and your not gone yet

Can't leave the old life
Can't start anew
I'm immobile; stagnant
With nothing to do

You go to hold her
I'm left behind
To build the wall
Around my mind

It's a long process
The mortar is wet
The wind is still
and your not gone yet

You breeze back to hold me
As if nothing has changed
But the world that I'm used too,
Has been re-arranged

I have no say so
I just exist
Building my wall
Brick by brick

It's a long process
The mortar is wet
The wind is still
And your not gone yet

Very touching this piece of emotional heartfelt poem. It's hard to comment on poetry of this nature. Makes me wonder what became of Penny? These lower comments- five years old. Hopefully, several opportunities to find a lasting "quality" relationship.
