Slow Healing
by Laryalee Fraser (Age: 68)
copyright 08-10-2001

Age Rating: 18 to 127

Pain peeling
jagged layers off my mind.
Spurts of feeling
siphoned out, dehydrating numbness
left behind.

Desolation drops
in dark molasses puddles
at my feet.
Outside, the world cavorts
but I am wrapped
in wan retreat.

Wearied time
sutures edges of tomorrow
with unbroken strands of grey.
Moments climb
upon the scars
in thoughtless disarray.

This agony will pass,
well-meaning voices claim.
Perhaps.
But I will never laugh
the same.

I love your range! Your imagery is perfect, powerful emotions flowing from sadness to inspiration. You have a rare talent!

siphoned, dehydrating...been there, done that! Such imagery, such feeling. I often felt like I'd never be the same, or be able to love again. I was only half right. I was never the same, something about feeling pain... you never forget it completely. But love again? Yeah, I'm a fool. What can I say? *grin*

I liked this one a lot, especially the words, "This agony will pass, well-meaning voices claim. Perhaps. But I will never laugh the same."
I am sure that many people can relate to this one.
Very well written thought provoking piece.
