Matthew
by Melissa Bean (Age: 21)
copyright 05-24-2003

Age Rating: 13 to 127

This is my poem in memory of Matthew Shepard.

Today is the day
I'm going to save your memory
They tied you up to that fence
They robbed you of your dignity.

they ingorantly blamed you .
for the things they've done.
i wish i could say sorry.
but i am just one.

Dear Matthew, you didn't deserve to die.
Dear Matthew on your death bed they lied.

kids weren't supposed to be afraid to walk the streets at night.
i promised to not forget you. i promise to keep the burning light

Dear Matthew.
a whole nation weeped for you.

It is a tragedy when an innocent victim has to pay the price. Death is so final. This is a very touching write and I enjoyed reading it! Anthony
