Poetry -

What is poetry? Simply put, if it's not prose, then it's poetry. It is believed that poetry originated before written language and was used as a memory device. Rhyme and rhythm were essential. Since then poetry has evolved into a broad genre which includes many variations. Free verse is one form of poetry that doesn't necessarily have a rhyme scheme or rhythm. However, free verse poetry often has either rhyme or rhythm. On our poetry help pages you can learn about and explore many of these features. You are also invited to add to the knowledge by writing articles for our poetry help section.
